Good news: Govt moves to amend Islamabad Rent Restriction Ordinance

PTI Senator Seemee Ezdi will move the bill for amendment in Senate of Pakistan on Monday

ISLAMABAD: A long outstanding issue of rental in the federal capital is going to get over as Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) government is all set to move an amendment bill in the Senate to amend Rental Restriction Ordinance Islamabad 2001 on Monday.
PTI Senator, Seemee Ezdi, is going to move the bill in the Senate on Monday. The bill subject to passing by the Senate of Pakistan will become a law after signing by the president of Pakistan. The National Assembly has already passed the proposed amendment. Asad Umar, Ali Nawaz Awan and Furrukh Nawaz had presented the proposed bill in the National Assembly. All three PTI parliamentarians have representation of the federal capital.
Talking to NEWSMAN, Senator Seemee Ezdi, confirmed that she is schedule to move the bill in the Senate for amendment in Rental Restriction Ordinance Islamabad 2001 on Monday. She added that the objective of proposed bill is to facilitate the residents of the federal capital and provide a good atmosphere to both the landlords and tenants.

The statement of objectives and reasoning attached with the proposed amendment said there was a decades old demand of the residents of the federal capital to have Islamabad Rent Restriction Ordinance 2001 amended to meet their concerns. It said the amended bill entails that every agreement between the landlord shall be presented through a cross cheque or with an official receipt/ acknowledgement. The rent of residential or commercial property will increase 10 percent annually.
A representative of landlord and tenant will report the agreement of rent to the concerned police station for registration. In the case of dispute a mediation counsel headed by the president of chamber will decided the matter. The decision of the mediation Council will be final

The rental issue is a long outstanding thorny issue of the residents of the federal capital as exiting rental low has tilt towards the landlords/ owners that make living and doing business difficult for the tenants. Keeping in view the nature of the issue and its bad impact on the lives of the tenants of the federal capital different segments’ of the society are continuously demanding amendment in the existing rental law of the federal capital.
Keeping in view difficulties of the residents of Islamabad and create a balance between the landlord and tenants, the PTI took a big stride and moved an amendment bill to change the existing law and facilitate the both parties …landlords and tenants and have a better relationship between them,
