Pakistan, US vow to work togather for.regional peace

US top official holds talks in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and United States of America (USA) have reaffirmed their commitment to work togather for regional peace.

The two countries expressed their willingness to work for regional peace and decided to move forward to watch mutual interest in the region. The commitment to this effect came from Pakistan and US during top level discussion on Afghan issue, bilateral talks and regional peace during a series of meetings held in Islamabad on Friday. US deputy secretary of state, Wendy Sherman, is visiting Pakistan currently.

Wendy Sherman had a meeting with army chief, Qamar Javed Bajwa. After the meeting, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement which said the army chief told the visiting US deputy secretary of state that Pakistan wishes to see inclusive government in Afghanistan. It further noted COAS said in the meeting Pakistan accords top priority to its relationship with US.
The visiting US deputy secretary of state told the army chief that US was willing to work with Pakistan for regional peace.

Earlier, Wendy Sherman had talks in Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) with Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The two leaders had detailed discussion on all.important issues including Afghanistan situation, Pakistan-US ties and regional peace.
After Ms Wendy’s meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, US embassy in Islamabad issued a statement. It said Wendy Sherman held an important meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi on all important issues including Afghanistan situation. In the statement, US deputy secretary of state said US will see actions of Taliban rather than their statements for cooperation. She noted that Taliban have not honoured their commitments made to the world community.
