Brutal murder of social media influencer Sana Yousaf solved: Suspect arrested within 20 hours

Islamabad – In a major breakthrough, Islamabad Police have arrested the brutal killer of 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousaf within 20 hours of the crime. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, held a press conference at Rescue 15 alongside senior officers including DIG Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq, SSP Investigations, SSP Operations, and DSP CIA, where he confirmed the arrest and shared key developments.

The tragic murder took place inside the victim’s residence in the federal capital. The incident sparked a wave of public outrage across Islamabad and the country. Following the incident, DIG Islamabad formed seven specialized police teams which conducted an intense, technology-driven investigation. The teams analyzed over 300 call records, monitored social media accounts, and reviewed footage from Safe City and private surveillance cameras.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Umar Hayat, was tracked and arrested in Faisalabad. During the arrest, police recovered the victim’s mobile phone and the murder weapon from his possession. It was revealed that the suspect had taken the phone in an attempt to destroy evidence after committing the murder. To apprehend the accused, Islamabad Police conducted over 11 raids across three cities.

According to police, the suspect was unemployed and had persistently tried to contact Sana Yousaf. After she refused to maintain contact, he allegedly killed her in a fit of rage. On the day of the incident, the accused visited her home, shot her twice, and fled the scene.

IGP Rizvi stated that the police were under immense pressure to solve the case due to its sensitive nature and the national attention it received. He acknowledged the efforts of the investigation teams for solving the case swiftly, adding that a strong case will be presented in court to ensure the culprit receives maximum punishment.

Sana Yousaf, originally from Chitral, had been residing in Islamabad. Her tragic death in the jurisdiction of the Sumbal police station has shaken the community and highlighted the urgent need for protection of young women, especially those in the public eye.
