ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday announced to postpone Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML -N) vice president, Maryam Nawaz , case, scheduled for March 26, 2021 saying ‘ It took the decision to this effect to avoid public gathering outside its Lahore office in the context of rising Corona cases in the country indicated by Control and Command Centre (CCOC).
NAB’s arguments in this case seem out of any logic and reasoning as it does summon its wanted individuals, of course not as powerful as Maryam Nawwz and investigate them no matter COVID-19 increases or decreases. Its point of view for postponing of PML-N vice president’s case hearing is self-explanatory. By cancellung the case in debate, it established beyond any doubt that NAB is functioning without any logic and reasoning. By cancelling its hearing in Maryam’s case, it simply proved NAB lacks strength of a real and true state institution that works under the law to establish writ of the law.
Another hard fact that unfortunately proved correct by NAB’s act of cancelling hearing into Maryam Nawaz’s much- trumpeted case that this institution lacks a strong will to carry on its function when it faces pressure from any public gathering (Jutha ). Had NAB real strength as an institution, it would have gone ahead with its plan to hear Maryam Nawaz’s case. This cancellation will leave NAB hard and dry. It will have far and far reaching impact on NAB. Any political accused can announce to bring jutha with him/ her and NAB will bow down to the knees and take refuge in its announcement of cancelling the hearing.
NAB’s retreat of March 25, 2021 is going to encourage other powerful accused to bring juthas with them to get their cases adjourned indefinately.
Pakistan is fast turning into a country where influentials prove themselves taller than the state. NAB’s compromise of Thursday is definately going to strenthen this perception which is nothing else but unfortunate.
