ISLAMABAD: September 1,2025: In a major development , the federal government has appointed a 7-member board of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) with Dr Abid Suleri as its chairman.
Dr Abid Suleri is an independent economist and presently heading Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), a valuable institution that provides input to the government of Pakistan for the policy making.
Other members of NDRMF included Secretary Planning Division government of Pakistan, Secretary Finance Division government of Pakistan , Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) government of Pakistan and Secretary ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination government of Pakistan
Dr Faiz Mohammad Kakar and Dr Mohammad Nadeem Javaid have also been appointed as member of NDRMF.
The government of Pakistan has issued notification of the appointments of NDRMF board. The Cabinet Division notification said NDRMF will come into force with immediate effect.
Since Pakistan is facing worst affect of the climate change and formation of NDRMF is a very important development . NDRMF will manage funds to meet financial demands in any urgency like floods or any other disasters. Pakistan is currently braving worst floods in decades of its history. Such disasters need proper planning , execution and timely disbursement of funds to the affectees to mitigate their impact on the society.
