Rawalpindi, May 23 , 2026; Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, COAS & CDF concluded a short but highly productive official visit to Iran. During the visit, the Field Marshal held high-level engagements with Iranian leadership as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at promoting de-escalation and constructive engagement, amidst the regional tensions that have simmered after the ceasefire on 8th April, 2026, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The statement added Field Marshal called on H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, H.E. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, H.E. Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran and H.E. Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister of Iran. The discussions remained focused upon expediting the consultative process underway to support peace and stability in the region and to reach to a conclusive agreement.
The engagements were held in a positive and constructive environment and contributed meaningfully towards the mediation process. The intensive negotiations over the last twenty four hours have resulted in encouraging progress towards a final understanding.

The statement said “Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and constructive role in facilitating dialogue and promoting peaceful settlement of regional issues”.
Upon arrival, the Field Marshal was received by H.E. Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister of Iran, along with senior civil and military officials.
As a part of the on-going Pakistan ‘s efforts aimed at permanent ceasefire in the Middle East (ME) , CDF And COAS , Syed Asif Munir , had embarked upon an official visit to Iran on Friday. He had held a series of important meetings with Iranian leadership during his 24-hour visit to Tehran to discuss controversial issues delaying a peace deal between Iran and US.
Some media reports suggest that next 24 hours are very important for an announcement for permanent ceasefire between Iran and US.
New York Times on Saturday claimed that US and Iran are heading for an agreement for ending the war in the ME. The newspaper gave credit of bringing the US and Iran closer for a possible agreement to CDF COAS , Syed Asim Munir. The Newspaper reported that CDF and COAS , Syed Asim Munir played a key role for possible deal between Iran and the US.
Meanwhile , US secretary of Foreign Affairs , Marco Robio , who is in India for an official visit , claimed that he may have some important announcement to make regarding end to the war with Iran.
