FBR Extended Income Tax Return Filing Deadline

Islamabad, October 15, 2024: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns to October 31 for the second time.

The tax collection body released the following statement late Monday night: “The Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to communicate that the date of filing of income tax returns for tax year 2024, for those who were required to file their returns by September 30, 2024 and were extended up to October 14, 2024 via circular No.2 of 2024-25 dated September 30, 2024, is further extended to October 31, 2024, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.”

“The action was taken in response to requests from the tax bar association and other trade bodies, as well as following the announcement of banking holidays in Rawalpindi and Islamabad,” it continued.

FBR Extended Income Tax Return Filing Deadline

In light of the highly anticipated Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting, which will take place on October 15 and 16, a three-day public holiday was declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The FBR already extended the deadline for filing tax returns for fiscal year 2024 to October 14.

In recent years, the FBR has extended the deadline for filing tax returns, as is customary. Additionally, the authorities extended the tax return filing deadline to October 31 last year.

In its tax-heavy June budget, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led administration unveiled an ambitious taxing plan to increase its chances of obtaining a new bailout agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
