Federal cabinet okays crucial amendments in Defence Forces Act

Defence Forces Act 2026 is likely to be tabled in both houses of parliament today

Islamabad: August 20, 2026. The Prime Minister Office ( PMO) on Thursday said
Federal Cabinet has Approved Defence Forces Act 2026 and Amendments to National Command Authority Act 2010

It said a meeting of the Federal Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, was held today in Islamabad. The draft has been prepared as a continuation of the amendments introduced through the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Its purpose is to define the relevant administrative matters concerning the office of the Chief of Defence Forces and the Headquarters of the Chief of Defence Forces.

Following the Cabinet’s approval, the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 will be presented before Parliament for approval during its ongoing session.
The Federal Cabinet also approved amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010. The amendments were considered a necessary step following the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The amended draft of the National Command Authority Act 2010 will also be presented before Parliament for approval.

Amended Defence Forces Act 2026 is being seen as a major development as the move are going to grant extra ordinary powers to defence forces to carry out operations against terrorists operating in Balochistan and Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPK).

There is a great possibility that the amended Defence Forces Act 2026 to be tabled in the both national assembly and Senate for approval today.
