TORONTO, Canada: The most essential “Parkinson’s” medications are only available in 12.5% of Africa compared to 79% in Europe. It was disclosed by the World Parkinson’s Program, Canada on its website and letters in connection with their fundraising campaign with the aim to let us all come together to care about Parkinson’s in Africa. This fundraising kicked off by World Parkinson’s Program this month on December 01 under the title Give on Giving to help them raise the $70,000 needed to provide free medications to our patients in Morocco, Ethiopia, Uganda, Liberia, Zambia, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon and Nigeria for 1-year.

There are hundreds of thousands of people with Parkinson’s living in African nations undiagnosed and untreated, they said. Lack of neurologists, inaccessibility to medications, and poverty all prevent people with Parkinson’s from getting essential treatment, they maintained. With the spread of COVID-19 many of these individuals have been pushed further into poverty and left isolated, they worried. Join the World Parkinson’s Program in tackling this growing disparity, they urged.
