PESHAWAR — Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi discussed several important provincial matters during a meeting held at Governor House, Peshawar. The meeting focused on the deteriorating law and order situation in the province, the prevailing political situation, and various aspects of the situation arising from the recent long march.

The participants expressed concern over the possibility of terrorists being facilitated to cross security checkpoints safely during the long march. They also discussed what they described as the provincial government’s attitude and role during the negotiations regarding counter terrorism operations, terming it detrimental to the interests of the people and the province. The meeting noted that after an agreement was reached on resolving the issues, the provincial government allegedly demonstrated rigidity and irresponsibility and once again adopted a policy of taking a U turn.

The use of helicopters and other government resources by the Chief Minister and provincial ministers during the long march was also discussed. The participants termed such use a violation of the decisions of the Islamabad High Court. The two leaders also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest and held consultations on several issues concerning the province.

The meeting further agreed that whenever the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan deem it necessary to impose Governor’s Rule or an emergency to protect the province from terrorism and destruction, the Governor House would play its full constitutional role.
