ISLAMBAD : The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesdsy exempted 61 corona- related items from sales tax .
The list of the items that have been exempted from the sales tax were oxygen recovery kits, N- 95 masks, X-Ray machines, vantilators, networking kits, surgical items used in corona related -treatment.
The FBR issued a formal notification to this effect here .
According to the notification , the concession of exemption of sales tax on corona -related items will be available till December 31, 2021.
The exemption granted to delete sales tax on corona related items will encourge thier local production and enhance export of these items to earn much-needed foreign exchange.
Pakistan had been sole importer of all types of corona- related items, ranging from masks to vantilators from other countries that added to the woes of the public as the price of imported items related to corona pandemic was much higher. The availability of imported items, particularly , masks and vantilators was also a serious issue.
Keeping in view the urgency and fast spread of the deadly virus, the government quickly moved to have inhouse production of all corona- related items. This effort turned into a big success.
Then Science and Technology miniser, Fawad Hussain Chaudhary’s efforts and personal interest paid good dividend to Pakistan as it began to have locally made quality corona related items in short timeframe. Not only this, Pakistan became exporter of corona related items like masks, vantilators and kits and now its earning sizeable foreign exchange through export of these items.
