IHC bars NAB from arresting Nawaz Sharif till Oct 24

ISLAMABAD: Oct 19: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) supremo, Nawaz Sharif. has got a major relief from the court on Thursday. An accountability court of judge, Abdul Hasnat Zulqurnain, has suspended the arrest warrant earlier issued to him in Toshakhana case for taking away a luxurious car in violation of the rules.

Meanwhile, a division bench of Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb of Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) not to arrest former prime minister and PMLN supremo in Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Avenfield properties reference cases till October 24.
Former federal Law minister , Azam Nazir Tarar and Amjad Pervez advocate appeared before IHC bench to present the case of Nawaz Sharif before the court. NAB prosecutor and his legal team was also present before the court. NAB prosecutor and his legal team did not oppose Nawaz Sharif’s surrender to the court on his return. Now after getting major relief Mian Nawaz Sharif will appear before he court personally on October 24.
Now PMLN supremo will be free to land at Lahore or Islamabad airport on his return to Pakistan on October 21. PMLN has announced that Nawaz Sharif is going to return to Pakistan on October 21.

A day before, Nawaz Sharif had moved IHC to seek protective bail for surrendering to the court for bail in Avenfield and Al-Azizia references.
IHC court had served notices to the state and NAB prosecutor
Nawaz Sharif was handed over 10- year jail term besides disqualify him from holding any public office in Avenfield reference case in 2018 He was also sentenced for seven years for concealment of the facts and handed over jail term in this reference also. Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif had developed some serious disease and after doctors’ advice, IHC had allowed him to travel to United Kingdom (UK) in 2019. Since then Nawaz Sharif was living there.
Nawaz Sharif’s daughter who is also chief organiser of PMLN also was handed over 7 years jail term as co-accused in Avenfiled reference case. She was, however, in 2022 from the case.
