ISLAMABAD: August 29,2023: The joy and jubilations of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers turned short-lived on Tuesday when a special court of Islamabad ordered arrest of PTI chairman in cipher case swithin minutes after Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his sentence in Toshakhana case.
This development came as a bullet from the blue for PTI leaders and workers who were planning to celebrate release of PTI chairman in Toshakhana case.
The orders of the special court of Islamabad which is hearing cipher missing case resulted in jailing Imran Khan again. The special court ordered to produce the accused (Imran Khan) on August 30 (Wednesday).
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set aside ex-prime minister ,Imran Khan’s sentence in Toshakhana case and ordered his release .
A 2-member bench comparing IHC chief justice , Amir Farooq, and justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, had reserved the judgment in Imran Khan’s sentence in Toshakhana case on Monday .
The verdict in the case was announced today (Tuesday). The court suspended the sentence of Imran Khan in Toshakhana case.
A trial court of Islamabad had awarded 3-year term in jail ,besides imposing a penality of Rs 0.1 million for hiding the facts in Toshakhana case.
The PTI chairman had challenged his sentence in Toshakhana case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan which remanded the case to IHC with a direction to revisit the verdict of the trial court.
In the last hearing , Amjad Pervez advocate had argued before IHC to issue notice to the state as the case against Imran Khan was of extraordinary significance . ECP counsel had also argued that since the trial court has sentenced Imran Khan for indulging in corrupt practices and consealing the facts under oath , it should hear the state before giving any verdict in the case.
The court , however , rejected the argument of ECP counsel and decided to go ahead with the case.
Latif Khosa , the counsel for PTI chairman , contested the arguments of ECP ‘s counsel and pleaded in the IHC the trial court gave decision against his client in haste and hence it has a number of legal flaws . He Appleseed to the court to reverse the decision of the trial court and set his client who is also ex -PM free.
