Jahangir Tareen quits politics , Sirajul Haq resigns as JI chief over poll rout

Islamabad : Feb 12, 2024: In an unexpected rather shocking development , Istehkam- e -Pakistan Party (IPP) chief , Jahangir Khan Tareen , has quit politics over his defeat in February 8, 2024 election . Jahangir Khan Tareen posted his decision to quit politics and serve Pakistan and its people in some other capacities after losing in the election held last week in Pakistan . Jahangir Khan Tareen added in his post that he has great respect of the people ‘s will and congratulate his opponents who won the election. Jahangir Khan Tareen had formed IPP just one year ago and fielded his party candidates in different national assembly and Punjab assembly constituencies . He himself contested for two national assemblies seats from Lodhran district, but lost in both . Two candidates of his party –Abdul Aleem Khan and Aun Chaudhary have won from Lahore . In bus post , Jahangir Khan Tareen maintained that he would serve Pakistan to the best of his abilities after quitting the politics .

In another shocking development , Jamaat e Islami chief, Senator Sirajul Haq , has also announced his resignation as the party chief . While announcing his resignation as JI chief Senator Sirajul Haq in his post on tweeter said he accepts responsibility of JI defeat in the election and resigns as the party chief. All JI candidates have lost in the national assembly race in the last election. Jahangir Khan Tareen and Senator Sirajul Haq have set a new tradition in Pakistan of taking responsibility of the defeat in the election and resigned as head of the party but , former’s decision to quit politics is very shocking . Now both –IPP and JI– will elect their new heads in due course of time.

After losing in the election , Pervez Khattak also takes break from politics and resigns as PTI-P chairman.
