Lady Reading Hospital issues notice to senior doctor for not giving protocol to CM Afridi during visit

Notice says you remain seated during CM Afridi's visit to hospital . Notice demands explanation from senior doctor within three days

Peshawar — The Lady Reading Hospital Medical Teaching Institution (LRH/MTI), Peshawar, has issued a formal explanation notice to a senior on duty doctor for an alleged lapse in protocol and professional conduct during the visit of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the hospital’s Emergency Department.

According to an official letter issued by the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), the incident occurred on November 25, 2025, when the Chief Minister visited LRH to inquire after victims of a terrorist attack at the Federal Constabulary headquarters. The administration stated that the doctor concerned failed to handle the situation professionally during the high profile visit.

The notice alleges that the doctor remained seated throughout the interaction, did not introduce themselves to the Chief Minister, and failed to provide a briefing regarding the condition and treatment of the injured patients. Hospital authorities termed this conduct a serious lapse in protocol and coordination, stating that it fell short of the standards expected from an on duty medical officer at a major tertiary care facility.

This lapse in protocol and coordination is highly regrettable, the letter notes, adding that such behavior undermines institutional standards and professional responsibility, particularly during sensitive situations involving emergency care and government oversight.

The doctor has been directed to submit a written explanation within three days of the issuance of the notice. The hospital administration warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response could result in disciplinary action under the hospital’s established policies.

Copies of the notice have also been forwarded to the Head of the General Surgery Unit and the Secretary to the Hospital Director at LRH-MTI for information and record.

Lady Reading Hospital, one of the largest public sector hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, frequently comes under scrutiny due to its role in handling emergency cases arising from security incidents in the provincial capital. The latest development highlights the administration’s emphasis on maintaining professional conduct and protocol during official visits, particularly in the aftermath of terrorist incidents that draw public and governmental attention.

Hospital officials have not publicly commented further on the matter, stating that the issue remains an internal disciplinary process pending the doctor’s explanation.
