There exists hope when hopelessness overtakes the nation going to the polls today amid fear, uncertainty, and despair, more due to the anticipated outcome of the elections being a bitter fight between the king’s party versus the people’s aspirations, the former being the clear winner in this heartless political tug-of-war.
Pakistan is blessed with people like Dr. Sajida Ahmed Choudary, who feel the pain of those who are in need of help. We have always heard of Kashmir and Kashmir Day, but not once have we heeded the plight of those areas that were once part of the lost Kashmir and joined Pakistan on their initiative. Today, the same people of Gilgit-Baltistan take to the streets demanding subsidies for wheat, the area being an alpine region with hardly any land for agriculture to produce stable sustenance.
Not only that, one can see handsome and hardworking boys serving as waiters and dishwashers in restaurants in major cities while supporting their evening education. These images of the little children of a remotely located school at Darkot, adjacent to the Pak-Tajikistan border, are a telltale of human suffering of the citizens of the state where its leaders are worse than dogs, an animal vilified by humans as greedy, yet it proves itself superior to our leaders when it comes to protecting its family and home, ironically, our leaders fail to do except for self-aggrandizement and self-glorification at the cost of improvising these children, proudly labeling them as underprivileged while themselves as privileged. What a joke for a dog to know there exist underdogs in the world of humans.
These little self-respecting Pakistanis never want to be beggars in their lives, something their leaders pride themselves on doing, and instead opt to equip themselves with education against all odds, including harsh weather, food scarcity, and books. Luckily, this got the attention of this brave Pakistani daughter, Sajida Choudary, the incumbent Additional Session Judge in Rawalpindi, who relentlessly launched a fundraising campaign amongst her family and friends, enabling the little children to receive some help from their fellow countrymen that will go a long way in shaping the nation’s destiny, which depends on these children being our greatest asset.
