No direct funding to Taliban: UK foreign secretary

ISLAMABAD: United Kingdom (UK) foreign secretary , Dominico Raab, on Friday said his country will not give direct funding to Taliban for Afghanistan However he added UK would continue to provide humanitarian financial support for Afghan people through non profit organisations. He added that Taliban have to ensure condusive environment to get humanitarian assistance from the UK for Afghan people.
Dominico Raab was addressing a joint press with Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi here in Islamabad .

UK foreign secretary is on 2-day visit to Pakistan to discuss Afghan situation and style of government of Taliban.
He will have talks with Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Afghan situation and bilateral issues between Pakistan and UK. He is likely to meet prime minister, Imran Khan and army chief , Qamar Javed Bajwa, before his departure to UK.
Dominico Raab said UK wants a stable government in Afghanistan and UK would see how Taliban behave in their government. Dominico Raab said Afghanistan fall was sudden and unexpected for the whole world.
He said UK desires better relations with Pakistan He told a questioner that Dr Faisal Sultan, advisor to prime minister on Health . would discuss the issue with concerned UK authorities regarding keeping Pakistan on the red list.
He said Pakistan enjoys very important position strategically.

He appreciated Pakistan ‘s role in evacuation of British troops and citizens from Afghanistan.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi told mediapersons that there was no favouritee of Pakistan in Afghanistan, Rather, he added, Pakistan was interested in having an inclusive government in Afghanistan. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is urging the world community not to leave Taliban in isolation as any such situation can trigger a new era of terrorist organisations in Afghanistan . He said Pakistan wants UK to extend financial support for Afghan government to help it have a peaceful political setup in that country.
Later, Dominico Raab visited Torkham border with Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday .
