ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan struggles to get out of shock it received from lynching of Preyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan citizen, by a frenzied mob in Sialkot a few days ago, prime minister, Imran Khan, has declared that the government will not allow any group or individual to carry on such kind of henious act again.
The prime minister told participants of a session held on Tuesday to remember and honour lynched Sri Lankan citizen at Prime Minister House that Sialkot incident was the worst case of misuse of the religion.
Imran Khan said Sialkot incident has jolted the entire Pakistan as it brought bad name to the country and its people.
“We will not allow anyone to do so again”, the prime minister declared in clear terms.
“How can someone blame and kill anybody in the name of religion”, he questioned.
Lynching of Sri Lankan in Sialkot by a charged crowed over blasphemy allegations has raised serious quesrion for the state. It showed rise of extremism in the society. It also put the government in quandary as if some religious fanatic can run over on any individual after levelling serious allegations any time and kill him,/ her at will.
The prime minister’s assersion that the accused in Sialkot case will get major panelty is the answer to the growing religious fanaticism in the Pakistani society. The accused must be given examplary punishment to stop such henious and humiliating happenings.
Malik Adnan, a courgious man who tried to protect Sri Lankan national and his senior colleague from the crowed also attended Tuesday’s session at the Prime Minister House. The Prime minister awarded a certificate to Malik Adnan for his valour during the session. Later, speaking to media, Malik Adnan, said after Sialkot incident , entire Pakistani nation has stood up against religious fanaticism and he believes it could be a turning point to change Pakistan. Meanwhile, the government announced that it will provide fianancial aid to the family of lynched Sri Lankan national.
In a great show of sympathy, industrialists of Sialkot have collected S 0.1 million to be given to the aggrieved family of the deceased .
Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Pakistan has expressed satisfaction over the government action to bring the accused to the court for justice.
