No relief for major power consumers: Miftah Ismail

ISLAMABAD: August 26, 2022: Finance minister, Miftah Ismail, has said Qatar has shown interest to invest $ 5 billion in different key sectors of Pakistan, besides expressing intention to operate Islamabad and Karachi airports on lease on long term basis.

Addressing a press conference , Miftah Ismail, said Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirate (UAE) will also billions of dollars in Pakistan to help the country address its economic crisis on long term basis. He said UAE and Saudi Arabia have also shown interest in investing $ 2 billion in Pakistan’s LNG and solar energy projects.
Miftah Ismail said keeping in view the problem being faced by the people the prime minister has constituted a committee to workout some strategy for relief in power bills to those consumers who fall in the category of using up to 300 units. He said the government has already provided relief by adjusting fuel adjustment charges (FAC) for those consumers who consumed 200 units last month.

He said prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , was very much upset over higher bills of powers. He said the consumers who have used 200 units in July and have not paid their bills so far need not to pay current bills . He said such consumers will be issued the new bills without FAC for July last. He , however, clarified that there will be no relief in FAC for consumers who used more than 300 units last month.

Miftah Ismail also said the government has completed all conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for resumption of its programme for Pakistan and release a $ 1.17 billion tracnhe under extended fund facility (EFF).
Railway minister, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, who was also accompanying prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif, in his recent visit to Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia , also spoke at a press conference here.
