RAWALPINDI : The Sindh government has expressed reservations that the affairs related to the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) and Workers’ Welfare Fund (WWF) have not yet been fully devolved from the centre to the provinces in line with the 18th constitutional amendment.
The reservations to this effect were expressed as Sindh minister for Labour Human Resources, Saeed Ghani, held a meeting with federal minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources, Sajid Hussain Turi on Thursday.
The meeting between the two ministers took into consideration the affairs related to the Labour ministry.
Saeed Ghani informed the federal ninister that Sindh had already adopted laws to establish the necessary agencies in the provinces to serve the labourers including the workers’ welfare fund (WWF) as the labour had become a fully devolved subject in line with the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
He said that Sindh aimed to adopt the legislation for establishing an umbrella organisation for the welfare of the workers in the province by the merger of all the existing labour-related agencies. He said the desired legislation in Sindh had been delayed as the workers’ welfare fund and EOBI had yet to be fully devolved to the provinces.
The federal ninister assured Ghani that all the provinces would be duly consulted soon to complete the process of devolution of the subject of labour to the provinces.
