Non implementation of QR-Code costing Pakistan $ 300 m per annum

Pakistan’s top businessman and Premier Group CEO Iskander M Khan's efforts going unheard FBR’s powerful mafia foiling every effort aimed at using QR-Code on industrial products

Islamabad : Even after five years, Pakistan’s leading businessman and Premier Group’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) , Iskander M Khan, is yet to see his efforts implemented for printing of QR-Code on each and every industrial product. QR-Code can simply check production at real time and end tax evasion of trillions of rupee every year. The question arises who is blocking the efforts made by some individuals for implementation of QR-Code to stop huge tax evasion?.

Iskander M Khan, a prominent industrialist himself, is struggling to get his idea of using QC-Code implemented since 2020 and he has received disappointing response from all concerned quarters during all teething years of his whistle- blowing . Iskander M Khan is convinced that QR-Code use on each and every industrial product can enhance minimum one trillion to the government revenue on annual basis. Despite his hard work and following the proposed QR-Code use at almost all levels of the decision-making his efforts are yet to bring desired result. Since Iskander M Khan does not believe in give up, he has knocked at the next door of decision-makers. He has taken up the matter with prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , with a hope that top decision-maker of Pakistan will definitely take notice and order implementation of QR-Code on industrial products to stop pilferage of trillions of rupee in revenue.

In his letter address to the prime minister , Iskander M Khan said “We draw your kind attention towards our efforts for documentation of economy through printing of QR-Code on polypropylene bags to increase the government revenue since January 2020 . In addition to revenue generation, Indian government has added a new dimension to save the environment through printing of QR-Code on all kinds of plastic bags to ensure that the recycling of plastic waste”.

The letter said “According to the United Nations Environment Programme, Pakistan has the highest rate of plastic waste , as only 3 percent of plastic waste is recycled . The threat posed by single use plastic is significant , as it choke drains and litter landscape across the country, because the authorities concerned over the years failed to curtail production and sale of single-use plastic products”.

It maintained that in the light of above the printing of QR-Code on all plastic bags , will ensure re-cycling , check cheating besides ensuring clean and green environment. Isikander M Khan proposed to the government that plastic shopping and industrial bags should be produced under a license issued by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Track and Trace System of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure printing of QR-Code , containing the name of the manufacturer , grammage, denier and microns under the plastic waste management. He submitted the following proposals to the prime minister in his letter. Polythene bags should have minimum of 120 microns .

Polypropylene bags should have minimum of 600 denier. Non-woven polypropylene shoppers should have minimum of 60 gsm.

The proposed specifications will ensure economic viability for recycling of plastic bags that will reduce 30 percent of import of plastic raw materials and subsequently save $ 300 million of Pakistan’s hard-earned forex exchange.
