ISLAMABAD ; A maiden meeting of the national security committee (NSC) held in Shahbaz Sharif government on Friday concluded that there was absolutely no foreign conspiracy against the ousted government of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) as was claimed by former prime minister , Imran Khan.
The NSC of the parliament met here with prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , in the chair. All members of the NSC including joint chief of staff , all three chiefs of armed forces ,, director general Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) attended the meeting . Pakistan’s ambassador to US , Asad Majeed, briefed the NSC meeting on the content of the cable he wrote to Foreign Office after his meeting with one of top US officials , Donald LU, on March 7, 2022.
In order to know the facts about the lettergate and put an end to the ragging controversy on the issue,
Shahbaz Sharif had announced to summon NSC meeting soon after taking oath as prime minister of Pakistan. Former prime minister , Imran Khan had alleged the US of writing a threat letter to Pakistan to convey its authorities in Islamabad that Washington wanted regime change in Pakistan.
An official handout issued after the meeting said the NSC was briefed by Pakistan’s ambassador , Asad Majeed, on the alleged threat letter.
The handout clearly noted that there was absolutely no threat letter written by US to Islamabad to seek regime change in Pakistan. It added rather , it a cable sent by Pakistan’,s ambassador to US to convey what transpired in his meeting with Donald Lu at his farewell .
The statement said “The NSC, after reviewing the contents of the communication, the assessment received, and the conclusions presented by the security agencies, concludes that there has been no foreign conspiracy”.
The NSC’s categorical denial of PTI much trumpeted threat letter and subsequent conspiracy theory is a big jolt to Imran Khan,’s narrative. It has established that Imran Khan and his political aides like Shah Mahmood Qureshi , Shaikh Rashid , Fawad Chaudhary , Asad Umar and Mohammad Ali , Asad Qaisar and Qasim Suri were part of a plan cunningly worked out to change a cable sent by Pakistan’s ambassador to the Foreign Office into a US threat letter. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) says the controversial letter was a criminal act that was tauntamount to a serious conspiracy to damage Pakistan’s relationship with US and demands that It should be investigated as to how and why former prime minister , Imran Khan, opted to present a cable of Pakistan’s envoy as a US letter and what was the objective of conspiring against Pakistan.
Federal minister for planning and development , Ahsin Iqbal, in his comments said Imran Khan has intentionally damaged Pak-US ties by using a fake letter for it.
