Pakistan vows to maintain strategic balance in region

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday said it would not join the race for conventional and strategic arms as it could be a real danger for security and peace of the region.

An announcement to this effect came after 25th meeting of the National Command Authority (NCA) . The meeting, however, reiterated declared stance that Pakistan would continue to persue its policy of maintaining minimum deterrent level for ensuring impregnable defence of the country.

Prime minister, Imran Khan, presided over the NCA meeting . Its other participants included chairman joint chiefs of staff, chiefs of three armed forces and minister of Defence, Interior, Finance and Foreign Affairs.
An official handout issued after the meeting here said the NCA reviewed the security situation of the region in connection with the on-going dusputes and noted that Pakistan will keep on playing a constructive role for making the region peaceful.

The handout added the NCA expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities.and asserted
Pakistan being a responsible atomic state will keep persuing the policy of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The NCA expressed satisfaction over level of Pakistan’s preparedness for ensuring defence and security of the country.
The meeting also expressed full confidence in arrangements made by the concerned departments to make security of Pakistan’s strategic assets foolproof.
The meeting also noted that Pakistan will ensure strategic balance in the region.

The NCA acknowledged the role of Pakistani scientists and engineers who worked with zeal to make Pakistan a nuclear state.
