ISLAMABAD; Pakistan People Party (PPP) senior leader, Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan, on Wednesday claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has managed to strike a deal. He made this stunning claim in a TV talk show. He, however, did not divulge as to how PMLN made a deal and with whom. It was evident that Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan was referring to PMLN deal with the establishment. PMLN was at war with the military establishment since ouster of its supremo and former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif from power in 2016. Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for having a role in Panama Papers scam in 2016. Soon after the announcement of the judgement of disqualification of Nawaz Sharif, his party hardliners like Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif , Ahsin Iqbal and many others had unleashed a campaign against the higher judiciary. They sharply contradicted the judgememt of the apex court and started a public campaign against it. Since then, PMLN was struggling to establish that it was a uncrackable political party. To great extent it proved its power to the establishment during the last four years. Despite the use of the entire state machinery by incumbent government, the PMLN has remainted unfazed. The other side of the story is that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government has failed on all fronts. Its working style has brought the country to the knee economically on domestic front and on diplomatic front Pakistan seems losing on many issues. The poor perfornance of PTI and economic vows confronted with the country may make PTI a loser in the days to come.
In the given situation, Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan’s claim of PMLN deal makes more than a common sense. Former prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s latest statement that Shahbaz Sharif will be PMLN candidate for prime minister office is also something of great interest for those who matter in the affairs of the country.
