Islamabad: May, 2025: In a significant enforcement action targeting illegal IMEI tampering and the sale of cloned or patched mobile devices, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Rawalpindi, in close coordination with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Rawalpindi, successfully carried out an inspection at a mobile phone shop (City Mobile Center) located in Singapore Plaza, Rawalpindi.
The joint raids resulted in the confiscation of one laptop, one CPU, and a mobile phone used in the illegal modification of IMEIs.
PTA maintains a zero-tolerance stance towards the unlawful trade and alteration of mobile device identifiers. Such practices pose serious threats to national security and public safety by enabling anonymity for cybercrime, financial fraud, abductions, and other criminal activities.
The Authority remains committed to protecting the integrity of mobile communication networks in Pakistan. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity related to mobile phone tampering or cloning. Legal proceedings will be pursued against those found involved in such offenses.
