ISLAMABAD: The race for appointment of chairman the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has begun finally, The names suggested by the treasury and opposition benches have many iconic personalities. The government has suggested name of Interior secretary, Yousaf Nasim Khokhar, Amlees Chaudhary and Ejaz Chaudhary. The opposition panel included names of Justice (Retd) Dost Mohammad. The names of retired bueaurocrats Nasir Khosa, Salman Siddique and Jalil Abbas are also under consideration for the slot.
The sources of the Prime Minister House on Monday confirmed beginning of consultative process between the government and opposition for this high profile appointment. Under 18th amendment, the appointment of NAB chairman could be made with concensus of the leader of the House and opposition leader in the National Assembly. If both the leader of the House and opposition leader fail to reach to the concensus , the matter automatically goes to the parliamentary panel. If the parliamentary panel fails too, its the Supreme Court which has final power to appoint NAB chairman.
Information minister, Fawad Chaudhary contradicted the reports that the government auggested any name for appointment of NAB chairman, but added that the names for NAB chairman slot would be finalised after consultation in coming days.
