PESHAWAR – A tragic road accident in Upper Swat claimed the life of a schoolgirl and left more than 20 students and local women injured after a school bus carrying female students reportedly suffered brake failure and overturned in the Darmai, Landai Cham area on Tuesday.
According to rescue officials, the bus, belonging to Hira Girls School and College, was transporting over 40 female students when the driver allegedly lost control due to a brake malfunction.The vehicle overturned, causing panic among passengers and resulting in multiple injuries.
Upon receiving the emergency call, Rescue 1122 Swat immediately dispatched six ambulances along with medical response teams to the accident site.Rescue personnel launched a swift operation, providing first aid to the injured before shifting them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Initial reports indicate that more than 20 students sustained injuries of varying nature, while three women pedestrians present on the roadside were also injured after being caught in the accident.
Rescue sources confirmed that Hoorain, daughter of Khurshid and a resident of Landai Cham, succumbed to her injuries, becoming the sole fatality reported so far.The injured students and women are currently receiving medical care at local health facilities.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief across the area, with family members, relatives, and local residents expressing profound sorrow over the loss of the young student.Community members have also called for stricter safety measures and regular mechanical inspections of school transport vehicles to prevent similar tragedies.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash and assess whether any negligence contributed to the accident. Officials stated that further details will be released as the inquiry progresses.
