ISLAMABAD: The standing committee of Senate on human rights on Thursday snubbed Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh in its meeting for failing in taking timely action against kilkers of Nazim Jokhio.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Waleed Iqbal , showed disappointment that instead taking action against the killers of Nazim Jokhio, the Sindh police was delaying investigation in the case. Senator Saifullah Abro informed the committee that the killers of Nazim Jokio were getting facilities at the police station during custody. He said the killers of Nazim Jokhio being powerful politicians and important members of the ruling Pakistan People Party (PPP) in Sindh were enjoying privileges in the police custody. He told the committee that the main accused were member of provincial assembly (MPA) in Sindh and a member of national assembly (MNA) of PPP. He added that the accused were now threatening to his widow to kill her if she continued to persue the case of her killed husband. Mr Abro demanded trial of the killers of Nazim Jokhio under anti terror laws. The committee agreed to this proposal and it directed to the IGP to add the section of terror in the FIrst Information Report (FIR) of the case.
The IGP Sindh assured the committee that the case of Nazim Jokhio will be tried in the court under anti terror laws. He also informed the committee that the widow of Nazim Jokhio has already been given police security.
A sitting MPA of PPP in Sindh assembly and an MNA of PPP had called Nazim Gokhio to the farm house of the PPP MPA and tortured him to death last year in November for airing video of their foreigner friends. Nazim Jokhio, a young Sindhi, had left his video message before going to the MPA farm house and expressed risk to his life. Nazim Jokhio’s concern proved true. The powerful politicians of his own area tortured him to death in 6 to 8 hours and later his dead body was thrown outside his house. The powerful MPA and MNA gave message to the Sindhi by killing Nazim so brutely that they can kill anybody if someone dares to do anything against their will.
