This photograph, captured on July 5th, 2023 at 11:30 am, features General Zaman of Khurram Agency at the office of the SDO IESCO Rural Honourable Abid Balouch, Kurram Agency is a geography in KP that borders Afghanistan, where my late uncle Col. Arham Effendi and my schoolmate Brigadier Akhtar Aleem once served commanding the troops.
Interestingly, this image of General Zaman, named by his father as a tribute to the Pakistani Army 60 years ago, coincides with the day when Capt. Karnal Sher Khan, another passionate devotee of the Pakistani Army, fell on the battlefield in the heights of Kargil.
Without delving into the specific circumstances and the subsequent tragic politicization of the armed forces, which has contributed to its present image crisis among the common citizens, one can only wish that as a nation, we were honest in our lives and professions. Such honesty would not only produce brave defenders but also exceptional statesmen and outstanding professionals.
Ironically, today, the most talented individuals from Pakistan continue to dedicate their lives and resources to building other nations and countries, as they often struggle to find recognition in their own homeland. Rest in peace the brave son of the soil 🇵🇰
