Traders stage sit in at Faizabad, reject FBR measures

ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Anjumun- e -Tajran on Tuesday staged a day-long sit in at Faizabad here. Its leaders categorically rejected the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) measures like installing of device at sale points and registration of small traders under sales tax regime.
The traders had gathered at Faizabad to join sit in and protest against FBR new measures. They will stage protest outside prime minister secretariat on October 30 2021.
Ajmal Baloch , president All Pakistan Anjumun e Tajran said traders will continue protest till acceptance of their demands . He said FBR measures were anti busunesses and traders of this country will never accept them. The traders had given a countrywide call for protest at Faizabad against forced registration of small traders/ vendors in sales tax regime and introducing installation of device at point of sale by FBR.
Talking to NEWSMAN, Khalid Chaudhary, secretary general All Pakistan Anjumun e Tajran said the traders are going to continue their protest and next phase of sit in will be held outside the prime minister secretariat. He said traders will not allow FBR to ruin their businesses in the name of forced registration in sales tax regime and dragging them into point of sale system controversy.
The government had introduced new measures a few months ago by promulgating a presidential ordinance for bringing all categories of businesses under sales tax regime. The new measures introduced through presidential ordinance also empower FBR to instal device at point of sale (PoS) with a purpose to bring each one business into tax net. The trader community takes it as extremely dangerious step that it argues can add to their woes in the future. Their representatives call these new measures as coersive for traders/ vendors and reject it outrightly.
Khalid Chaudhary claimed that FBR was trying to implement a regime which was bound to destroy small businesses. He asserted registration of small businesses/ vendors in sales tax regime was a deep -rooted conspiracy and it, in his view, was meant to usurp small businesses and add to Pakistan’s financial problems.
