Yousaf Raza Gillani calls for impmentation of laws to discourage tobacco use

The opposition leader extends support to PANAH for nobel cause of protecting future generations

ISLAMABAD: A delegation comprising President Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) Maj Gen (retd) Masood-ur-Rehman Kayani and General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman had a special meeting with former Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Senate , Yousuf Raza Gilani here.

Kayani said that PANAH has been working for the prevention of heart diseases for the last 36 years.Factors that harm health, such as Tobacco, Sugar-Sweetened Beverages ( SSB ), salt, and fat, continue to rise alarmingly. We have to work for the safety of young children.

PANAH General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman said the Health Levy Bill was passed by the federal cabinet two years ago to reduce the use of non-essential items such as Tobacco and Sugar-Sweetened Beverages ( SSB ).And the FBR was asked to include it in the budget,But so far it has not been implemented.You are requested to play a positive role in this.

Expressing concern over the rise in heart disease, Leader of the Opposition Yousuf Raza Gilani said that it was not possible to achieve development without a healthy society.Tobacco and Sugar-Sweetened Beverages ( SSB ) are not good for health at all.When it comes to the younger generation of the nation, then it is the responsibility of the Government to do this. PANAH efforts are worthwhile, we are with them in the noble cause of PANAH.I will do my best to implement the Health Levy bill.
