LAHORE: August 5, 2024: All Pakistan Fertilizer Dealers Association (APFDA) pattern-in-chief, Mr Ghulam Ahmad , has appreciated the government decision to import 0.1 million tons of urea for Kharif season. In a statement, Mr Ghulam Ahmad on Monday said the import of 0.1 million tons of urea is a timely and prudent decision which will ensure smooth supply of urea to the farmers for Kharif season. He said APFDA is appreciative of the government decision of importing 0.1 million tons urea fertilizer for Kharif season and it will play a vibrant role on its part to make availability of urea for the farming community for Kharif crops.
Mr Ghulam Ahmad said APFDA always discourages distortion in the market and play a role to keep smooth supply of fertilizers to the farmers as a top priority. He said the farmers have the right to get urea and other fertilizers in time and use agri inputs for enhancing agriculture production of Pakistan.
Last week the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) o the federal Cabinet had okayed import of 0.1 million tons urea for ensuring availability of urea for Kharif season. Pakistan roughly need 3400 MT of urea for Kharif season. Its domestic urea production for Kharif season will be close to 3200 MT The Fertilizer Review Committee had anticipated shortfall of 0.2 million tons for Kharif crops and recommended to the government to import around 0.2 million tons of urea to ensure smooth supply of the fertilizers to the farmers during Kharif season.
Rice, sugarcane , Maize cotton are some of Pakistan’s main crops of Kharif season and income of agriculture sector heavily depends of seasonal crops yield. In order to ensure good yield of any season, its imperative to make sure that the farmers make prudent and timely use of fertiliZers and other agri inputs. APFDA, being a key component of agricultural network, always play a key role in supply of fertilizers to the farmers
