Pakistan’s worker remittances cross $ 4 billion mark in March

Govt eyes $ 37 billion worker remittances by end of current fiscal year

Islamabad: Pakistan has won the confidence of overseas Pakistanis and it has translated into historic inflow of remittances in March 2025. The statistics released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SNP) on Monday indicated encouraging results of remittances for March 2025. According to the SBP report , in March 2025, workers’ remittances inflow stood at US$ 4.1 billion, crossed US$ 4 billion mark for the
first time.

The report claimed that in terms of growth, remittances increased by 37.3 percent and 29.8 percent on y/y and m/m basis respectively. It said cumulatively with an inflow of US$ 28 billion, workers’ remittances increased by 33.2 percent during Jul-Mar FY25 compared to US$ 21.0 billion received during Jul-Mar FY24.

Khurrum Shahzad , advisor to the Finance ministry lauded overseas Pakistanis for setting a new record of remittances in March . In his message , Khurrum Shahzad hoped that Pakistan’s remittances would cross $ 37 mark by end of the current fiscal year –June 30,2025.

SBP noted that remittances inflows during March 2025 were mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia ($987.3 million),
United Arab Emirates ($842.1 million), United Kingdom ($683.9 million) and United States of America ($419.5 million).

With rising pressure due to huge loan services charges in the current fiscal year , Pakistan heavily depends on worker remittances to meet its fiscal responsibilities.
