Worker remittances maintain momentum despite ME crisis, Cross $ 4 billion mark

Karachi: June 10, 2026 : The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday said the worker remittances for May 2026 recorded at US$ 4.3 billion during May 2026. It added in terms of growth, remittances increased by 20.2 percent on m/m and 15.4 percent on y/y
basis. With May inflows cumulatively, worker remittances increased by 9.2 percent to US$ 38.1 billion during Jul-
May FY26, compared to US$ 34.9 billion received during the same period last year.
The remittances during May 2026 were mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia (US$ 1,025 million),
United Arab Emirates (US$ 1006.6 million), United Kingdom (US$ 645.5 million) and United
States of America (US$ 349.8 million).

Pakistan is heavily dependent on worker remittances and there were apprehensions in Islamabad that the on-going war between Israel , US and Iran , these inflows may scale down massively. However, The inflows of remittances transferred by Pakistan in terms of remittances during the last three months of ME war on significantly encouraging.
Pakistan’s remittances could remain above $ 40 billion by the end of the current fiscal year. However , this trend may not continue in the next fiscal year as the ME region could suffer setback for a long term in post US-Iran war scenario. Therefore, its necessary that Pakistan should take necessary measures to ensure inflows of forex from some other channels like exports and investment.
