ISLAMABAD : October 28,2022: In an expected development , advocate Abid Ali Zuberi, won the election of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Friday.
Abid Zuberi was a candidate of Hamid Khan group . He bagged 1347 votes . His opponent , advocate Khalid Javed, got 1148 votes only.
Mr Abid Zuberi had a lead of 199 votes over his rival –Khalid Javed . Khalid Javed advocate had support of Asma Jahangir group .
Hamid Khan is a central legal aide of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and winning of his group can be a great moral support to Imran Khan and his party.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has always supported Asma Jahangir group in SCBA elections .
In last year election , Ahsin Bhon of Asma Group had defeated Hamid Khan group ‘s candidate with a big margin .
However , Ahsin Bhon remained non starter as a SCBA president due to his undue tilt towards PMLN . At times , SCBA remained divided in Ahsin Bhon’s tenure and it led to compromise over authority of this important forum of Pakistan’s legal fraternity .
Probably Mr Bhon’s poor rather a party specific approach also contributed to defeat of Khalid Javed in today’s SCBA elections .
