Holy Makkah (Saudi Arabia):The Kaaba’s covering was changed today in the presence of thousands of pilgrims. The pilgrims were part of this great occasion by performing Tawaf. It should be noted that every year at the beginning of the new Islamic year, this tradition of changing the covering on the Kaaba is carried out with great devotion and respect. This process of removing the existing covering and putting on the new Kiswah is completed under the supervision of special experts.
The new covering is made of high-quality raw silk, on which Quranic verses are embroidered in a very sophisticated manner with silver threads and 24-carat gold. Hundreds of craftsmen, calligraphers and technical experts contribute to this process after months of hard work.
The spiritual ceremony of changing the covering of the Kaaba at the beginning of the new Islamic year is being held today in the Grand Mosque. The new cover, which was produced at the Kiswah Factory, took about eleven months to prepare, and hundreds of skilled craftsmen worked day and night to produce it.
The new cover weighs 1,415 kilograms, and 1,000 kilograms of pure silk, 120 kilograms of gold, and 100 kilograms of silver threads were used in its preparation. This grand process of preparing the Kaaba cover was carried out at the Kiswah Factory, where more than 200 skilled craftsmen faithfully embroider Quranic verses on the cover. The Kaaba cover consists of four large pieces and 47 medium and small parts, which are assembled with great skill and care.
On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Mecca, the Imams of the Grand Mosque, and 159 experts and craftsmen from the Kiswah Factory are participating in this auspicious ceremony. This ceremony is not only of spiritual grandeur.
