DPM Dar claims major development in US-Iran back channel negotiations

Islamabad : Amidst escalating tension in the Middle East (ME), Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister , Ishaq Dar , has claimed major development in US-Iran back channel diplomacy.

Mr Dar , who is a key member of Pakistan’s team which is mediating between Iran and US to end the Middle East (ME) war, in a statement on Tuesday said ” There is a major development in the mediation being made by Pakistan to end the ME war through talks. He added that the efforts are being made to end the ME war on respectable note for the warring parties.

Pakistan had hosted a key round of talks between Iran and US in Islamabad last month that led to a ceasefire in the ME conflict. It was followed by series of meetings between Iranian and Pakistani leaders to workout a plan that could ensure respectable face-saving for both ,Iran and US, to end the ME war.

Iran and US are giving mixed signals through their statements and actions. In the last 48 hours , tension escalated in the ME with Iran’s missile and drones attacks on the UAE.

This development created an impression that US and Iran may resume war in the ME. Amidst the fears of resumption of the war in the ME , DPM and Foreign minister , Ishaq Dar ‘s statement has served as a beacon to rekindle hopes for resumption of talks between Iran and US.
