ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek- e- Insaf (PTI) has finally launched Barrister Sultan Mahmood for the post of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) president.
Barrister Sultan has submitted his papers for the AJK president slot after formal nomination by PTI . Since PTI enjoys a decisive majority in AJK assembly, the win of Barrister Sultan Mahmood would just be a formality in the election for the office ,scheduled for August 24.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhary is a prominent Kashmiri political leader. He had been prime minister of AJK in the past as well. He enjoys good reputation among political circles of AJK . He had contested previous AJK assembly election from his home constituency,, Mirpur amd won the seat as PTI candidate.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood being a vibrant political leader was also among PTI favouritees for AJK prime minister office.
In the second thought PTI leadership picked up Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi ,again an experience and reputed Kashmiri, for AJK primiership.
NEWSMAN sources said soon after winning the election, PTI top leadership had summoned Barrister Sultan Mahmood to Islamabad to give him an alternative offer for sidelining from PM race. The offer included getting elected as president of AJK and award of ticket from his home constituency LA Mirpur 1 to his son . Barrister Sultan was also promised to make his son a member of Abdul Qayyum Niazi’s cabinet on winning the by election that will fall vacant on winning his as AJK president.
Barrister Sultan , according to NEWSMAN sources, was initially reluctant to accept the offer but after missing the opportunity of PM, he accepted the offer for contesting the election of the president . He will also get other incentives attached with the original offer like getting ticket for his constituency for his son and inclusion of some his likeminded members in the Abdul Qayyum Niazi’s cabinet.
