PESHAWAR ; July 30,2023: A powerful blast killed at least 50 persons, besides injuring another 200 at a political rally organised by the Jamiat e Ulema Islam of Maulana Fazalur Rehman in Bajour in the Northwest of Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPK).
The blast ,most probably a suicide blast , went off when the local party leaders were addressing the public gathering.
A local JUI (F) leader Ziaullah khan, is also among the dead . Maulana Fazalur Rehman was not present in the rally.
The injured and dead bodies of those got killed in the blast were shifted to nearby hospital.
Tariq Khan , an eye witness, said the big crowed was hearing speeches of its leaders when the bomb went off and then it was smoke all around noone knew what happened and who was dead and who was safe.
Maulana Fazalur Rehman ‘,s JUI (F) is part of the government alliance. Hitting the political gathering in Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPK) which is historically considered a strong hold of JUI (F) is a bad omen as it will give a negative and discouraging signal to the political parties which are gearing up for taking part in the upcoming general elections.
Pakistan is supposed to go for general elections in the last quarter of the current calender year.
