Chinese companies barred from working in risky areas of Pakistan

Beijing expresses serious concern

ISLAMABAD: The Chinese embassy in Islamabad has directed to all the companies of its country not to work on any project in risky parts of Pakistan. The embassy official quoted Balochistan and some parts of Khyber Pukhtunkhaw, in particular, in the meeting held here on December 4 2021 . The Chinese embassy in Islamabad called an important meeting of the Chinese companies working in Pakistan on Saturday to give them the new policy guidelines on security and protection while working in Pakistan.
An informed source told NEWSMAN,requesting anonymity, that Chinese embassy in Pakistan expressed serious concern over security threats being faced by Chinese citizens while working in Pakistan and issued them blanket instructions to make sure that none of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan exposes himself or herself to any risk.
According to the source, as many as senior officials of 22 Chinese companies had attended the meeting in Chinese embassy.

The Chinese nationals have been advised not to go out of their offices and living places unnecessarly in Pakistan to avoid any threat to their lives.
The embassy also advised to Chinese companies to seek its approval for working on a project of worth $ 5 million worth or more in Pakistan. The
Chinese companies are operating in almost all key sectors of Pakistan like oil and gas, defence, power projects construction you name any . These companies were, undoubtedly, playing a major role in helping Pakistan make a considerable stride forward and then anti Pakistan forces hit it below the belt by conducting two major terrorist attacks..one on Dasu dam site where terrorists targetted a bus carring Chinese nationals who were working on Dasu dam project which claimed lives of 19 Chinese nationals and then attack on Chinese visiting top delegation at Serena Hotel in Quetta in 2021.
These two incidents seriously dented Pak- China relationship. The Chinese government, in reaction to these two terror incidents, stopped work on Dasu dam and threatened to pull out its company involved in construction of Dasu dam. Although Beijing reviewed its decision of halting work at Dasu dam project on Pakistan’s request ,but Beijing remained suspicious over security cover provided by Pakistan to the Chinese companies workers in Pakistan. It has badly affected pace of work at Dasu dam and other many projects of China, Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The
Chinese companies are only relying on local contractors as Chinese workers have been made to sit in the offices or at site offices which has slowed down pace of work at 100s of key projects funded by China in Pakistan.
