LAHORE : Dec 21,2022: The power game for Lahore thrown has taken a twist for the worst as the Punjab assembly speaker , Subtain Khan, on Wednesday defied the Governor ‘s order for calling the session of the assembly for taking vote of confidence by chief minister , Chaudhary Pervez Elahi.
Punjab Governor , Baleegh Ur Rehman , had summoned the session of the provincial assembly and issued an order the other day, asking the Punjab chief minister to take vote of confidence to prove that he enjoys confidence of the majority of the members of the assembly.
The Punjab assembly speaker had ruled on Tuesday that since the assembly was in session , the Governor ‘s order for calling the session for vote of the confidence by the chief minister was illegal.
The speaker’s ruling has created a legal and constitutional crisis in the province.
Since the Governor can denotify the chief minister of the province if he fails to take vote of confidence , the Punjab Governor is likely to use his constitutional powers and denotify.Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as chief minister Punjab any time .
Interior minister , Rana Sanaullah , spoke to a TV channel on a stand-off like situation in Punjab on Wednesday. He said the legal experts have given their legal opinion to the Governor and in the light of the legal opinion the Governor will issue another order today any time to denotify Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as the chief minister of Punjab.
Meanwhile , Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has announced to protest outside the Governor House in Lahore on Thursday over the Governor ‘s advice to ask Chaudhary Pervez Elahi to take vote.of confidence.
