Dealers announce to shut down petrol pumps from July 22

Dealers use strike as last option to get increase in commission on sale of petroleum products

ISLAMABAD : July 20,2023: The dealers have announced to shut down petrol pumps across Pakistan from July 22 to pressurize the government to accept their demand for increase in commission on sale of petroleum products.

The dealers are demanding increase in commission on petroleum products sale and they quote a number of factors which in their views are continuously reducing their profit margin. The issue is unresolved between the government and the dealers for long .

Now the dealers have reached to the conclusion that they need to go for some pressure tactic to force the authorities to increase their commission on sale of petroleum products .

Speaking to NEWSMAN from Karachi by phone on Thursday , All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association chairman, Abdus Sami, said ” the government had agreed to fix profit margin for the dealers on sale of petroleum products at 5 percent, but they are forced to sale petroleum products at almost 50 percent less profit margin”. He said the dealers are getting only 2.8 percent commission on sale of the petroleum products which makes this huge investment intensive business unfeasible.

According to Mr Abdus Sami , the rise in smuggling of Iranian petrol and diesel has added to the financial woes of the dealers in Pakistan. He said the dealers across Pakistan will go on strike from July 22 and shut down petrol pumps indefinitely .
