ISLAMABAD: Finally Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) president and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif, has distanced himself from Nawaz ‘Sharif’s narrative of wrangling with the state organs and advised to his party second tier leadership not to go to point of no return.
Sources in PMLN confided to NEWSMAN
Shahbaz Sharif has also refused to buy proposal of resigning of opposition members from parliament to add pressure on Imran Khan to resign and pave way for what the opposition calls fair and free elections in the country.
Since last general elections held in 2018, opposition is calling these general elections unfair and calling for fresh elections in the country.
The Pakistan Tehreek -e’ Insaf (PTI) government is calling the opposition ‘s demand as improper and negation of its mandate.
This on-going tussle between the government and opposition is getting worse with each passing day and creating a pilitical crises like situation in the country.
To add pressure , the opposition’s alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has launched a country-wide public campaign. It held public rallies across Pakistan during the last couple of months.
The opposition alliance is naming some top generals for favouring PTI in 2018 general elections for installing Imran Khan in power to push forward agenda of crushing the opposition and establish a one oarty rule in the country.
Meanwhile , the opposition alliance is weighing different options like submitting resignations enmass from the assemblies to make the government disfunctional and force the prime minister to step down.
Sources said Pakistan people Party (PPP) chairman , Balawal Bhutto Zardari , had held a meeting with Shahbaz Sharif in Kot Lakhput jail in Lahore last week to take him into confidence on the issue of resignation of opposition members from the assemblies.
The idea of resignation of the opposition parties from parliament to bring the PTI government to the knees was floated by Jamaat Ulama Islam Fazal Group JUI F chief , Maulana Fazal ur Rehman, in a PDM meeting, which was fully endorsed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) supremo, Nawaz Sharif,. PPP is following a conscious approach on the issue. Its stakes are very high as it will loose Sindh government . Neither PMLN nor JUI F has anything to loose if its members resign from the assemblies .
According to the sources, Shahbaz Sharif sharply disagreed to the idea of resigning of opposition members from parliament during hus meeting with Balawal Bhutto Zardari.
Shahbaz Sharif told Balawal Bhutto Zardari not to play in the hands of a particular mindset in opposition that wants the opposition to take hard position against the military establishment .
According to sources, Shahbaz Sharif advised Balawal Bhutto not to take extreme position on issues like long march and resigning from.parliament as it can leave PDM without bargaining position.
After Balawal’s meetimg with Shahbaz Sharif, the opposition alliance looks in two minds on taking the public campaign to the final stage of resigning of its members from parliament and launch march on Islamabad as announced by PDM in its last meeting held in Islamabad.
