ECP disqualifies Faisal Vowda in dual nationality case

ISLAMABAD; The Election Commission of Pakistan ( ECP) on Wednesday disqualified Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader , Faisal Vawda, as member of the Senate of Pakistan in dual nationality case.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Sikander Sultan Raja announced the decision of Faisal Vawda’s disqualification at a press conference here.
A 3-member committee of ECP , headed by CEC Sikander Sultan Raja , had heard the case against Faisal Vowda and reserved the judgement on December 2021..
Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader , Qadri Mandokhail had filed a petition against Vowda claiming that PTI leader from Karachi had dual nationality at the time of filing his nomination papers to contest the National Assembly election from NA 249 Karachi.
Vowda had contested the election for the National Assembly seat from NA 249 Karachi in 2018 general elections.
The complainant …Qadir Mandokhail …who was competitor of Faisal Vowda in 2018 general elections , had pleaded in his petition that Faisal Vowda indulged in pergury by cheating the ECP by not disclosing that he held US nationality at the time of filing his nomination papers.
Qadir Mandokhail had argued during the last hearing into the case that ECP was committing inordinate delay in finalising the case and holding of announcement of judgement tantamount to denial of justice in the case.
Mandokhail’s arguements were heard by the ECP committee patiently and CEC had assured him that he would get answers of all his questions in the judgement into the case.
The ECP decision of disqualifying of Faisal Vowda is likely to have very serious political repercussion in coming days.
Faisal Vowda was considered a close political aide to the PTI chief and prime minister , Imran Khan . For his close relations with PTI boss, Faisal Vowda had managed to get slot in the federal cabinet. Seeing his weak position against Mr Mandokhail’s petition in the.ECP, Vowda was asked to resign by his party top leadership . However, he was offered to become a member of the Senate . It was a clear deviod of rule of law but who cares for the rule of law when the individual is a friend of the prime minister. Now ECP decision in Faisal Vowda’s case has exposed hypocrisy of the rulers who talk of merit and rule of law just for public consumption.
