Islamabad : The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved promotion of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Syed Asim Munir , as a Field Marshal.
General Asim Munir has become the second Pakistani army chief to get promotion as the Field Marshal. Previously , General Ayub Khan, was appointed as a Field Marshal through a presidential order in 1959 .
General Asim Munir’s promotion to the post of field marsahal was approved by the federal cabinet in its meeting held here on May 20 , 2025 with prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , in the chair.
Field marshal is the highest rank in Pakistan’s army and its conferred on the 4- star general (COAS) for his extra ordinary services to the nation.
COAS Asim Munir ‘s promotion as a Field Marshal has come for his historic role in the recent fight with India. COAS Asim Munir led his army from the front to defeat India in fight early this month.

A statement issued by Prime Minister Office ( PMO) here said the federal cabinet approved promotion of COAS , Syed Asim Munir , as a Field Marshal of Pakistan for his extraordinary leadership qualities to field his army against Indian armed forces in the latest fight and defeat them.
