.ISLAMABAD- The Office of the Deputy Director of the Federal Investigation Agency Cybercrime, Islamabad Zone, has initiated an investigation into a Twitter account allegedly spreading anti-state narratives. The account in question, with the username “@ImranKhanPTI,” is purportedly managed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The FIA’s Cyber Crime Reporting Centre (CCRC) has observed that the Twitter handle “@ImranKhanPTI” has been disseminating content that criticizes state institutions, including the Pakistan Army. The account, which boasts 20.6 million followers, has been accused of building a false narrative and spreading misinformation through social media. A specific post under scrutiny is a video uploaded on May 26, 2024, at 10:58 PM, which can be accessed via the URL: [https://x.com/imrankhanpti/status/1794790306912907381?s=48](https://x.com/imrankhanpti/status/1794790306912907381?s=48). The video, which has garnered 4.2 million views, 56,000 likes, and 38,000 retweets, is deemed to be misleading and intimidating. According to the FIA, the content could incite officers or soldiers of the Armed Forces of Pakistan to mutiny or disregard their duties, potentially leading to offenses against state institutions or senior military officers. This act is considered a serious subversion, aimed at creating division and hatred among the ranks of the Armed Forces. The FIA has emphasized that this conduct falls under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) of 2016, necessitating a thorough investigation. The agency recommends that appropriate legal action be taken against the user of the “@ImranKhanPTI” handle for their involvement in the anti-state campaign. All relevant screenshots of the alleged posts have been documented and attached as Annex-A to support the investigation. The Deputy Director of the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre, Islamabad, has confirmed the ongoing investigation. Technical Assistant Anees-ur-Rehman, part of the CCRC Islamabad team, stated that further probe and investigation are required to address this serious matter. The FIA urges citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation and engaging in activities that could destabilize national institutions.
