LAHORE: June 25, 2024: An Anti Money Laundering Unit of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has reopened a case of money laundering against Sabir Hammed , a Lahore based realtor and close relative of former army chief, Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Sabir Hameed commonly known as a Sabir Mithu has been summoned by FIA on June 27, 2024. He has been advised by the Anti Money Laundering Unit of FIA to appear before the concern authority for an inquiry under Section 174 and 175 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) 1880 . Mr Mithu has been advised by the agency to bring with him all the record of his deals he made with the government departments for supply of land in the last one decade.
Mr Mithu being a close relative of ex-army chief, Qamar Javed Bajwa, had got popularity in Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure as an army chief. During that period, Mr Mithu had got a reputation of a main supplier of land to Defence Housing Authrotiy (DHA) Lahore.
The FIA notice issued to Sabir Mithu said “This is in pursuant to an ongoing criminal investigation in this agency reopened on the allegation of money laundering of crime proceeds. During the course of inquiry, it has come to fore that you are involved in the sale/purchase of land to different government departments illegally. Subsequently, the proceeds generated through these illegal sales/purchases were laundered and converted into valuable assets. In this regard, you are called upon to appear (in person) before the undersigned on June 27, 2024, at the FIA AML Cell, to explain your position. High volume suspicious transactions into your bank accounts contrary to the declared business profile.
Sabir Mithu was on the FIA radar in October last year . He was summoned by the FIA in the same case. NEWSMAN’s sources confirmed that in October last year, Sabir Hameed Mithu had not appear before FIA Lahore in person. However, he had responded to FIA notice through his lawyer . FIA had closed the case then but now after a gap of 8 months, it has sprang up for action against Sabir Mithu who enjoyed the status of UNTOUICHABLE as long as Qamar Javed Bajwa was in office as the army chief.
