Floods caused $ 45 billion loss to Pakistan , says initial assessment report

Affectees number crosses 4.5 million mark

ISLAMABAD : August 28, As of August 28, 2022. An initial assessment report of the Planning Commission has suggested that the recent floods have caused Pakistan loss of $ 45 billion in terms of livestock, crops and properties.

According to the report , as of August 28,2022, Pakistan ‘s number of affectees stands at 4.5 million .

The report said the floods have damaged
one million acre crops in different parts of Pakistan.

Pakistan is going to present the report on loss caused by the floods to the World Bank and other international donors to mobilise them to provide Islamabad funds for resettlement of floods affectees who are in millions.

The floods have destroyed Pakistan’s infrastructure like roads, rail network, transmission lines and these infrastructure would require billions of dollars for rehablitation of the affectees and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure .

As a result of the floods waters , 1575 people have injured and 1061 other killed .

The flood waters have washed away 157 bridges, 3437 KM roads.

In Punjab province loss of $ 33 billion have been reported .

The flood waters have washed away hundreds of thousands of villages, swept away over 0.3 million houses .

It also washed away one million animal causing huge loss of livestocks across Pakistan .

Pakistan’s 70 % areas are under flood waters at the moment . The people of flood hit areas are living in exteme difficult circumstances . They do not have food to eat, shelter to protect from more rains and floods . The affectees are forced to live in either make shift arrangements or in government buildings like schools, hospitals and mosques.

Although Pakistan government and its armed forces are continuing rescue operations in flood hit areas and are providing food and other necessities to the affectees, but since the volume of disaster is huge ,its next to possible for them to cater to basic needs of the affectees .
