FMPAC’s SoS : Road blockades in Sindh trigger fertilizer shortage across Pakistan

Road blockades in Sindh as protests continue in Sindh over canals issues disrupts fertilizers supply to entire Pakistan. FMPAC warns of fertilizer crisis in it letter addressed to Chief secretary Sindh if supply chain remain suspended for more time .

Islamabad : Fertilizer Manufactures have conveyed to the Sindh government in writing that road blockades in the province as a part of protests over canals issues have disrupted fertilizers supply chain and if this situation continues for more time it can create serious fertilizers and subsequently damage crops productivity in the country.
FMPAC in its letter addressed to Chief secretary Sindh said ” We write to seek your immediate intervention regarding the ongoing road blockades in Sindh, particularly in the Sukkur–Larkana division and border areas, which are severely disrupting the nationwide fertilizer supply chain. These disruptions are already impacting agricultural productivity and, if not urgently addressed, may trigger significant shortages and price volatility, with grave consequences for food security across the region”.

Currently, it added that over 600 fertilizer-laden trucks are stranded at plant sites, including ENGRO Dharkki, FFC Mirpur Mathelo, and FFC Port Qasim—Pakistan’s sole DAP manufacturer—due to transportation gridlocks. Industry estimates indicate that approximately 10,000 tons of urea and 2,500 tons of DAP face daily dispatch delays. While fertilizer stock remains sufficient at the national level, the lack of secure alternate routes and continued blockades are jeopardizing timely distribution to farmers, especially as the Kharif sowing season begins.

The situation is further aggravated by rapidly diminishing on-site storage capacity at production plants, raising the risk of forced shutdowns, which would further destabilize the supply chain.

” The letter further said ” We therefore urgently request your support in mobilizing the relevant administrative and law enforcement authorities to ensure the safe and unimpeded movement of fertilizer transport vehicles across Sindh. Timely action will be critical to prevent a cascading impact on farming livelihoods and national food security.

We trust in your prompt response to this critical matter” .
