ISLAMABAD. In senate elections held on Wednesday , all went to Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and its heavy weight Mr Asif Ali Zardari , who proved the proverb ” Aik Zardari sub pay bhari” correct by gaining majority vote for Yousaf Raza Gilani to bag senate seat of Islamabad.
Islamabad senate seat was not a seat only. Rather, it decides the fate of the sitting government. And its decision on March 3, 2021 went in favour of PDM candidate ,, Yousaf Raza Gilani who won the contest by getting 169 votes against the government candidate,,, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, who could bag only 164 votes in a house of 341 members.
The members of national assembly who intentionally or by default wasted votes by making wrong signs or writings played key role in Gilani’s win in this crucial contest.
Can one believe that an MNA or state minister does not know how to vote in senate elections?
Its a major question for prime miniater, Imran Khan , who not only lost a crucial seat in senate polls, but also lost trust of the house with win of Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Gilani’s win in senate is a big upset. It is going to put Imran Khan in hot waters in the near future.
Now opposition will ask him to take vote of confidence to show his majority in the house.
It will be a difficult question for Imran Khan to cope with. In the current scenario noone can predict how Imran Khan will react and what strategy he would like to adopt on the question of taking vote of confidence from the house to rule for the remaining term of 5 years, but onething which seems a possibility for the prime minister is he may avoid taking vote of confidence from the house.
NEWSMAN spoke to more than one close confidents of the prime minister after Gilani’s win on Wednesday who confided to this scribe on the condition of not naming them that instead taking vote of confidence from the house, Imran Khan can disolve assemblies and announce fresh elections in the country.
These confidents also hint at an another option that Imran Khan can use before going for fresh elections in the country. They say Imran Khan can seek a reply from the Election Commission on what happend in the senate elections. If Imran Khan goes for this option it will add to the on-going political crises before ending at some logical end.
Its time to decide what comes up from these senate elections for Imran Khan and PDM in coming days, but as of today Gilani’s win has politically crushed Imran Khan and PTI.
